Prep, plans, and procedures

- [Instructor] Let's start with a simple premise. All test projects need a test plan. It's the blueprint of every project and the underlying tool you will use to develop and execute your test. It will call out the various cases, suite, and procedures you expect to conduct during your time with the product. In effect, it's one of the key parts of preparing to test. However, writing the plan requires its own preparation. You can't just grab an old plan, copy it and write the new one. You will need to take the steps to identify gaps in prior tests, your current lab configuration, your test procedures, and of course the prospective features you'll be testing in the new software. You are going to have to separate what works and what doesn't. It's in these gaps where you must focus your preparation, what hardware, software and tools will you need to fill in those holes.
