- If you were asked to complete the sentence, I am, what would you say? Do you think about your race, your religion, your gender as core to your identity and or do you identify more with what you do? Would you say I'm an engineer, I'm a nurse, an administrative assistant. Would you consider your familial relationships as core to who you are? I'm a mother, a sister, a daughter. Thing is, there are no right or wrong answers. As we have multiple aspects of who we are and what shapes our respective identities. For me, my race and gender. I'm an African-American woman, influenced how I experience and see the world. Also my generation, I'm a baby boomer, that influences my worldview. My daughter's a millennial. And because she grew up in the age of technology with the internet and social media, technology plays a very different role in her life than it does in mine.
