- [Instructor] Generally, storage for healthcare data should be organized and secured like every other data type, and then extra security because of personal identifiable information. They are stored in databases, which are software and on storage media, which are usually hardware or on cloud. Databases are used to store and organize data in a structured and efficient way electronically in a computer system. They are designed to manage, retrieve, and manipulate, and allow designated users to assess, update, and analyze information. A database is not physical. It's a software system. A database ensures data structure and relationship, data integrity, data retrieval, security, and data scalability, backup, and recovery. There are different types of databases.
