What is diversity, inclusion, and equity?
- Diversity, equity and inclusion are essential in so many parts of our lives. Education, the workplace, business and marketing strategy, recruiting, healthcare and society at large. But here, we're exploring another part of our world where it matters so much, and that's in media and entertainment. Before we explore the reasons why, I'd first like to begin by defining some of the vocabulary we'll be referring to in this course, particularly with regard to the media industry. First, diversity. When I talk about diversity in media, we often refer to at least three things. The people that make the content, the content itself, and the audience that consumes the content. First, the people, or the human makeup of an organization. A diverse organization doesn't exclude anyone based on characteristics like race, ethnicity, nationality, age, gender, sexual orientation, disability status, religion, political beliefs, or other…
