Revising moral principles

- An ethical dilemma is a situation in which you are torn between two options. Both options can be supported by moral principles, but those principles are in competition. They pull in different directions, and it's not clear which moral principle you should follow. Testing and then revising your moral principles can help you make confident decisions in dilemmas and other complex choice situations. The decision might not be any easier, but you can act with a clear conscience knowing that you are operating with a plausible, defensible moral principle. Suppose that your supervisor has given you some information in confidence about upcoming layoffs that will include a friend of yours. You feel torn between loyalty to your friend and loyalty to your supervisor. You have two choices here. Sharing the news with your friend, or staying quiet about it.
