The respect practice model

- We've established how foundational a need respect is at work, but how do you cultivate it in your daily choices and behaviors? The Respect Practice Model makes the work of respecting all people more transparent. Like the visibility model, it has four sequential steps, starting with table stakes and evolving to more high-impact ways of showing respect to others at work. Step one is Engagement, which is about establishing a strong foundation for contribution. You have to connect people, get to know them, and make sure they know other key stakeholders. You must provide them with the knowledge they need to perform their jobs effectively and navigate the culture, and equip them to do their jobs well, like provide training. These are the basics, but the step beyond this is Regard. This involves treating people and their expertise in ways that lead to optimal contribution.
