From the course: Measuring Learning Effectiveness

Evaluating learning programs

- Do you like math? How about statistical analysis? Perhaps you enjoy accounting. These are topics that many talent development professionals try to avoid. Yet there are essential skills for today's trainers. Sooner or later we'll be asked to measure one of our learning programs, evaluated success and make recommendations for improvement. That's why I've created this course, How to Measure Learning Effectiveness. It's designed to give you a practical guide to evaluate learning programs and demonstrate their value to sponsors. And I promise, you won't need any complicated math, advanced statistics or a degree in accounting. Hi, my name is Jeff Toister. I'm a certified professional in learning and performance who has spent more than 20 years developing employee training programs. Today, I'm an author, consultant and trainer who helps customer service teams improve their performance. This course is divided into three parts. In the introduction, we'll discuss the importance of evaluating learning programs and we'll define some key terms. Next, I'll share some widely used evaluation models along with a few alternative approaches that are gaining in popularity. Finally, I'll give you a step by step guide that you can use to evaluate your own learning programs. I've also included a sample evaluation project that highlights what some of these key steps may look like. Adult learning professionals are passionate about developing people, but we need evidence to show organizational leaders what's working and what's not. This course will give you skills and techniques to make sure your training programs are how helping as much as possible.
