I have mentioned earlier the need to empower people if you want to create and maintain a high performing team. In conjunction with this, high performing teams have clear processes to enable people to take ownership of tasks and for those people to be held accountable for them. Teams which excel at accountability and ownership create a culture of trust, transparency, and responsibility where employees contribute to the success of the organization. Imagine a Formula 1 racing team on race day. Everyone in the pit knows their role. The commercial director who needs to keep the sponsors happy and the money flowing in, the driver who has memorized every corner and bump on the track and how to get the best out of the car. And the engineers who have tuned that car to perfection and on race day need to make sure the tires are changed as quickly as possible. Each is trusted to deliver on their given task to the best of their ability, and each is held accountable for the delivery of that task…
