- [Instructor] To view your routing table, you could be logged in to either of your VMs. I've logged in to my rhhost2 VM. In a terminal, type in ip space route and hit Enter. Let's look at the different parts of this output. The left-hand column is the destination network address with subnet mask. The word default signifies the default gateway address where traffic is sent if there is no available route. The second section encompasses two words, dev and the name of the device of the network. This could be a physical or virtual network device. The third section also encompasses two words, proto followed by the protocol. The kernel protocol says that the kernel installed the route during auto-configuration. These protocols are defined in the /etc/iproute2/rt_protos file. If this section says proto static, it means the route was set by the administrator and overrides the dynamic routing. The next section determines the scope of the destination.
