Know when to step up and step down
- Knowing when to step up and when to step down is critical promotable behavior. You might be thinking people who get promoted never stepped down. That's not true. You want to show initiative and you also want to show that you are someone who knows when they need help and someone who can get the best minds on any project. So how do you know when it's time to step down? Well, the first sign is being totally overwhelmed, and you know what this feels like. If you're struggling to complete your daily task or not sleeping or panicking you might not finish something, that's when you might want to bring in some outside help. A second sign you want to step down is if your view is too narrow. This one is a little harder to spot, but ask yourself, are you working on a project where you don't fully understand the context or the scope? And when you're deep into a project or a change, it can be easy to only see your point of view.…
