Differences between OPC and SCADA system
- [Narrator] Now, you may wonder, then what is the difference between SCADA and OPC? There is actual differences between SCADA and OPC, even though both have the essence of sharing and facilitating data exchange within industrial automation in a secure way. But OPC is part of a SCADA system to transfer data between two applications, where SCADA is actually the whole system, including the software and hardware. Now, there are SCADA software, like the one I'm going to use in this course in the next chapter. The software helps in connecting to field devices for monitoring, gathering, and processing real-time data. The software also helps in the supervision and control of the processes, both locally and remotely. But SCADA is more than just a software. SCADA is a system. It is a collection of both software and hardware components. One of the greatest usages of OPC protocol is to transfer data over a network and overcoming…
