- [Instructor] Next, let's take a look at how to adjust our settings for our Canvas account. Adjusting your profile, settings, and notifications upfront are definitely things I recommend doing. A little time on this upfront can save a lot of time and frustration down the road. Right now I'm inside of my profile and on the left, I want to click on the Settings link. Now remember, I got here by going to Account and then to Profile. Now I just want to go down here to Settings. I'll click on that and it brings me to my Settings page. In the center, we can see Full Name, Display Name, Sortable Name, as well as Language and Time Zone. Now remember that the full name is what's used in grading and your display name will be used when in discussions, messages, as well as leaving comments. Now you can change any of this by going over to the right and clicking on Edit Settings. Once you do, this opens up and you'll be able to go in and make changes in here. Now on the right-hand side, I want to point out another thing, and that is your ways of contact, so the ways that you'll receive notifications or contacts. In here, I currently have one email address entered in and that's the email that I used to sign up for the account. If I want to add another email address, I can do that by clicking here on plus Email Address. I actually do want to do this. I want to add another email address that I'll receive notifications at, so I'm going to type that in there. Next, it asks if you want want to be able to log into Canvas using that email address. In this case, I don't want to. I want to keep the original one as my primary. This is just going to be a place I receive notifications. I'll click Register Email, and it lets me know that they sent a confirmation email to the email address that I gave them. So I'll need to go over there and verify that before I can use that as a contact method. Now I'll click OK, Thanks, And on the right, below this, it says Other Contacts. I'm going to click here and here, you'll see that we can enter in a cell number so that we can receive text alerts. Now, in this case, I'm going to go ahead and type in my cell number. Then down below, I'll select my carrier, and it will give here my SMS email. When I'm done, I'll click Register SMS, and it tells me that it sent a code, a four-character confirmation code to the number that I gave it. Now I have not received that code yet, so for now, I'm going to close this out. But if I did receive the code, I would type it in here, click on Confirm, and it would add that SMS messaging here as a method. I'll go ahead right now and close this. And you can see that this is over here, but I will need to confirm that. Now another thing that I want to point out in the Settings page is that you can add registered web services. Here, you can see that I've already added my Google Drive account to make it much easier to access and utilize my Google Drive documents. On the right, you can see here that there are some other services, such as Skype, Twitter, and Delicious. You may have more if your school or organization has other services that you can connect to. So that's how you can adjust your settings. When you're done, you'll want to make sure you click Update Settings. Next, let's take a look at how to adjust notification settings.
