- One of our long-term clients once said to me, "Purpose doesn't make your decisions any easier, "it makes them clear." I absolutely agree. One of the most popular examples of purposeful decision-making is CVS. In 2014, CVS pharmacies stopped selling tobacco even though they were making two billion a year from it. Their announcement read, "Ending the sale of cigarettes and tobacco products at CVS "is simply the right thing to do "for the good of our customers and our company. "The sale of tobacco products is inconsistent "with our purpose, which is helping people "on their path to better health." After they quit selling tobacco, CVS launched the Let's Quit Together campaign and started personalized smoking cessation products. How are they doing after the initial revenue hit? Swimmingly.
