From the course: IoT Foundations: Fundamentals
Welcome
- Would you like to understand what the Internet of things is and how it works? Well, that's what this course is all about. Hi, I'm Bruce Sinclair. I'm an IoT business consultant that helps leading brands, manufacturers, and enterprises define their IoT business and product strategies. In this course, I'll provide a broad overview of the technical aspects of the Internet of things. I'll begin with an architectural overview, explaining the main components of IoT. Next, I'll explain the software defined product. This is a digital twin of the physical product, and it's core to understanding and differentiating an IoT product from a smart product or a connected product. Then I'll discuss the hardware defined product: the sensors, the actuators, and the embedded systems used to gather data from the physical world. Next, I'll discuss the network fabric. It joins the software defined product to the sensors and the external sources of data. Finally, I'll discuss external systems, exploring how external systems of data can be tapped into to provide more data for an IoT product. So if you're ready, let's put on our gunboots and wade into the abyss.
