Develop a structured interview process
- When is the last time you reviewed your interview process? If it's been more than two years, chances are, your process could hurt your efforts to interview and hire the best talent in today's very competitive job market. Great candidates know they are in demand and pretty much in the driver's seat. You will lose great candidates if your process is too short, too long, or inconsistent. Too often, when you ask a hiring manager when they want to fill a position, their response is ASAP or yesterday, which doesn't tell you when to start your interviewing process. If possible, obtain a specific target date to fill. This guides the timing of when to schedule interviews so the position is filled by the target date. Your interview process should be structured, consistent, comprehensive, and at the same time, efficient. This helps eliminate emotion, bias, and ensures that you're legally compliant.
