From the course: How to Use LinkedIn Learning
Customize your account settings
- [Narrator] There are many ways you can access your LinkedIn learning account. One quick way that you can always get there is to navigate to linkedin.com/learning. Now once here you can log in and once you're logged in, you're good to go. I'm currently on my LinkedIn Learning homepage and on the left I can see the side navigation bar that allows me to navigate to different parts of the site. Currently I'm on my homepage, but I also have Career Journey and more. Now I'm going to click the X up here to close that sidebar out. However, I can always navigate to different parts of the site by clicking on the icon over to the left. Now once you're on here, I know you want to get started with learning, but before you do, I recommend that you take the time to customize your LinkedIn Learning account settings. In order to do this, I'm going to go to the Me icon in the upper right. I'll click here and then navigate down to settings. This brings me to my settings page, and you can see that there are not a lot of settings here, but I do think it's important to take the time to look them over and customize them. Now at the top I can see my account type. I have an instructor tab, but that's because I teach a course on here. The next one I think is the most important, and that is the notification settings. So what is it that you want to be notified of on LinkedIn Learning? First of all, you can decide what you want to be notified of while you're on the web version or the app. If I click here, you'll see that I can turn on or off all the different things. Things like reminders. Do I want to be reminded of my in progress courses or if I haven't reached my learning goal? Things like that. You can decide which recommendations you'd like to receive. Ones based on what you've watched, you've saved, maybe you follow certain authors, and so on. So there are a lot of notifications here, and if you have too many on, it can be overwhelming. So I suggest going through here and deciding what you would like to be notified of to set yourself up for success. Now I'm going to click back to account settings, and you can also decide this for email. If I click on email, you can decide what you'd like to receive emails about with regards to LinkedIn Learning. Now I'll back up again and when I scroll down I can see here the next one, which is Consumption Preferences. This dictates whether or not content will automatically play when you open up LinkedIn Learning. So if you like content to automatically play, you can click and toggle this on. I'm going to keep mine off. And then you can decide when you're browsing recommendation cards if you'd like that content to automatically play. Again, I'm going to keep this one off. You can also set and adjust the language that you'd like this to be, including your learning content. I'm going to keep mine at English. And then below you have privacy settings. Now if I click here on Manage, it will just bring me to my LinkedIn account. So I'll click on Manage, and in another tab it brings me to my LinkedIn settings where I can go ahead and adjust my privacy settings. Because back here in the LinkedIn Learning settings on the bottom, you can decide if you want to show others what you're learning. So if I toggle this on, it will let others see what it is that I'm learning about courses that I'm currently in. So you can decide if you want that on or not. So those are the account settings. This is something that's easy to skip over. However, I wouldn't. Getting your settings customized can help set you up for success and it can save you some time and frustration down the road.
