- At this point, I so hope you feel empowered to speak up and really make a difference. Remember that when you speak up, so many amazing things happen. You reaffirm your values. Let's face it, if you just state your values, but your actions don't reflect them, they're probably not real values. Reaffirming them through demonstrable action is just personally fulfilling. You create opportunities for others to speak up. For example, when you highlight your concerns about the lack of racial diversity in leadership or the supplier pool, or even in the internship cohorts, it creates space for others to piggyback on those concerns. They may have been fuming and silent because they thought they were all alone. You create awareness, even discomfort for someone who may be doing or saying something inappropriate.
