What we mean by mentorship
- So what do we even mean when we talk about mentorship? Well by definition, a mentor is a more experienced and knowledgeable person who teaches and nurtures the development of a less experienced person. Most traditional mentorships involve having a senior employee mentor more junior employees. But mentors do not necessarily have to be more senior than the people they mentor. What matters most is that mentors have experience that others can learn from. In fact some companies have reverse mentoring programs where younger employees share their experience, say with using social media, with senior colleagues who may not have grown up with these tools. My point here is that mentorship is simply a mutually beneficial relationship. The rest is really up to you.
