- Every freelancer I know has at least one story of not getting paid or a client relationship gone bad. And more often than not, that experience could have been prevented with a simple contract. Contracts are your friend. They protect both you and the client and they can help create better client relationships. I know contracts may sound scary at first. A lot of freelancers are afraid that a contract could scare a client away. To me, that's a good thing. If your client isn't willing to agree to a project in writing, they may be much more likely to try and take advantage of the situation. Let's talk about how contracts can protect you. First of all, contracts make it clear that work is being done by your business and not you as an individual. Why does that matter?
