Hypothesis test and the F-statistic
- [Instructor] So in the previous chapter we were looking at hypothesis tests for two means and for two proportions. And in the previous video, in this particular chapter, I told you that ANOVA allows us to compare three or more groups. The thing I didn't tell you is that ANOVA is actually a hypothesis test for three or more groups. And so what we can see right here is that ANOVA is a hypothesis test for three or more groups, and the null hypothesis is always the same. So if you have three groups, the null hypothesis is saying that all of the groups are equal. So the average of group one, mu1, is equal to mu2 is equal to mu3. The groups are actually equal. The alternative hypothesis, of course, is saying, "Oh, no, they're not equal, but it doesn't mean that they're all different either."
