- [Instructor] On this worksheet called ExactMatch, we've got some ratings in column E, but we want to convert them into a numerical score based on that list over in columns A and B. You'll see the same list off to the right. Now, we could be using VLOOKUP or HLOOKUP, and I think almost immediately people would say, "Well, the list to the left is a lot easier to read and work with." VLOOKUP, think of V for vertical, means we're going to be comparing this entry here with the leftmost column. By definition, VLOOKUP means compare a value with the leftmost column of a list somewhere. Equal, as you type it, you can press VL + Tab. We're looking up the word fair, comma, over in these cells here. If there's nothing else in these columns, we can simply drag across columns A and B. That's easier to read. Comma.
