- One thing we know from looking at numerous reports analyzing sponsorship is that when these relationships form naturally, those in the more senior role usually choose people who are like them. Now, you know, this is not surprising. All of us tend to invest more readily and in people who are from our same backgrounds or upbringings or culture or values, I mean, people who maybe have like a similar personality or communication style, or maybe we have the same interest or social circles, education, or maybe we come from the same region or country. You know, when people are like us, we feel more comfortable with them, and they with us. We feel like we know them and what we can expect from them, we are more confident that our investment in them will yield positive results.
