One of the most complex aspects of any cross-team collaboration is clarifying how decisions get made and by whom. If you step back an inventory, the number of decisions that get made across your collaboration on any given day, you'd probably be shocked. Large or small, simple or complex, decision-making within partnerships are the gears that keep things moving. And most decisions aren't made by people in leadership roles contrary to popular belief. In my experience working with cross-functional partnerships, I found that confusion over decisions is one of the greatest impediments to productive collaboration. In some cases, the wrong people make the decision and others, people fight over who makes the final call. Or this confusion over information or timelines that impact decisions.
