What to expect from this course

- [Narrator] Before diving in to this course, I want to take a moment to make sure you know what you can expect to learn from it. Dreamweaver CC (2017) is a sophisticated tool for building websites. As the initial setup screen describes it, it offers faster web development, for designers who code. Dreamweaver has a lot of visual tools, that help with building and designing webpages, and even though you can drag and drop some page elements, if you try to use it without understanding the underlying code it creates, you'll get nowhere fast. If your new to web design, I really recommend starting by learning the basics of HTML and CSS. These two technologies are the core of web design. HTML or HyperText Markup Language, describes the structure of your webpage, and CSS, Cascading Style Sheets, controls how the page looks, specifying colors, fonts, background images, layout and so on. Without a solid foundation in HTML and CSS, not only will your skills as a web designer be incomplete, but you'll also find this course difficult to follow. The focus of this course is to teach the basics of Dreamweaver, not the basics of HTML and CSS. If your completely new to web design, I recommend watching Web Design Fundamentals with James Williamson, before moving forward with this course. It gives you an overview of web design, exploring best practices, and defining much of the terminology that you're going to hear in this course. James has created two other courses, that will broaden your understanding of HTML and CSS, HTML Essential Training and CSS Fundamentals. Also, while you're working your way through this course, I recommend that you keep an eye on the code that's being generated by Dreamweaver. Understanding the code will help you utilize Dreamweaver to it's fullest potential, and it will make it easier to fix problems with page layout. One final point, I'm recording this course using Adobe Dreamweaver CC (2017.5). It contains several important improvements to the version of the program that was originally released in November 2016.
