Surveying your audience as you build your content strategy
- [Narrator] When trying to understand your target audience, especially if you're trying to determine what kind of content they want and where they consume that type of information, there's often an easy solution. Ask. Sure, this method doesn't always give you the most comprehensive answer and more research is usually needed, but it's always useful to directly ask your audience about their content preferences. A great way to start doing this is to incorporate the asking into your already established sales, marketing, or customer service processes. For example, you can ask, "How did you hear about us?" on lead forms. And on initial sales calls, you can ask people where they like to get information about a certain topic like what podcasts, blogs, conferences, et cetera, they like. The key is to not make the surveys too long especially if you're not providing an incentive, because it's tough to get people to do a favor…
