Choosing a microphone
- Before we go any further, we need to take a few minutes and talk about microphones. And that brings us to my first rule of creating great screencasts. Never ever use the built-in microphone that's included on your PC, especially if you're recording on a laptop. While it may be convenient for you to have a built-in mic, the placement of that mic is not going to be ideal for capturing your voice cleanly. Yes, it does work in a pinch and it will get you by, but you're going to pick up a lot more of the noise coming out of your computer. You'll hear the pounding of your fingers on the keyboard, the fan that's built in to your computer, plus your voice is not going to sound as clear as it will with a good quality external mic. Now if all you have is that built-in mic, then by all means, go ahead and use it, it's better than nothing. But to really take your screencast to the next level, invest a little bit of money and get…
