Creating a standards file (DWS)

Creating a standards file (DWS)

- In the previous video we looked at the Autodesk knowledge network and about CAD standards. Now the whole idea of CAD standards is to utilize that DWS file in AutoCAD. So that's what this chapter's all about: using that DWS file to create a standards file that we can obviously check against with our AutoCAD drawing files or DWGs. So we've got a new drawing for you. It's 04_DrawingStandardsFile.dwg. It's 04_DrawingStandardsFile.dwg. You can download that from the website as usual and use it to follow along with this group of videos in the chapter. Now we're not going to do much with the DWG file in fact. What we're going to do is we're going to create a DWS file from it and then associate that with the DWG, and then do a little bit of audits and standards checking to make sure, so we can see what's going on, basically. So if a change is made we can check against the DWS file to make sure that it's adhering to the appropriate standard. Now you'll notice up here in the file tabs it says…
