- Whether starting or evolving your career, you've likely been inspired by someone, like a parent, mentor, or colleague. Early in my career, I was inspired by Sheila Carmichael, a senior HR leader and mentor whose career path I used as a blueprint. Following in Sheila's footsteps, I transitioned to an HR leader role in a manufacturing plant. But soon after starting that job, I realized I wasn't happy, so I quit. I walked away from that experience with a very important lesson, always honor my authentic desires and needs instead of copying someone else's path that doesn't fulfill me.
