- Organization as a tester is essential. Any ounce of disorder could cause problems as the weight and complexity of a project increases. It's a tester's duty to properly handle issues and track bugs that have been discovered, and this can be done in many ways. In some cases, something as simple as a spreadsheet can be used to track bugs as they're discovered when testing. On smaller teams, this may be preferred, as bug tracking software might provide too many options or even be too expensive. For larger teams or smaller distributed teams, bug tracking software might be needed. Things that can be easily communicated on smaller teams might need more defined organization, and additional options when working in different locations or in greater numbers, such as easy queries, project grouping, or organized workflows in swim lanes.
