- The most popular Agile framework is called Scrum. You've probably heard of it. It's often conflated with Agile itself. So what is a Scrum? It's a framework that facilitates the development of complex products. Because Scrum is a framework and not a methodology, it's abstract and is not prescriptive. If you imagine Scrum as a fitness guide, it will recommend general guidance on healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices, but it won't tell you exactly what to eat and specifically which exercises you should do. Scrum can help team build products with evolving requirements, which makes it very effective for developing software. Scrum first gained widespread popularity when two software industry leaders, Ken Schwarber and Jeff Sutherland, presented it at a conference in 1995. They have continued to fine-tune it ever since, and they are credited as the official inventors of Scrum.
