Scrum artifacts: The product backlog
- The three Scrum artifacts are the product backlog, the sprint backlog, and the increment, which is the product at the end of each sprint. This is a working version of a software product. The product backlog is the only to-do list for the development team. It can contain requirements, enhancement requests, defects, user stories, or even new feature ideas. The product owner is accountable for the contents of the product backlog but anyone can add or edit items in the product backlog. The product backlog looks like an iceberg. The items that are closer to the top are smaller. Items closer to the bottom are larger. Smaller items are easier to estimate and implement. Larger items are divided into smaller items in a process called grooming or refinement. Items are organized by priority and items with higher priority have more fine grain detail and are located near the top of the iceberg.
