How do you align your goals and incentives with your strategic partners?
I have one, very simple guiding principle when composing partnerships: Solve the other person's problem first. Hey, I said it was simple. Here's the thing: no one wants to be sold, including me. When a prospective partner leads with product, or just submits to the gravity of their pitch - they have presumed to understand that which they could not: the needs of their hopeful partner. This is on all sides, btw...buyer, seller, collaborator. Make solving that which challenges your partner...YOUR priority. This is fundamental. If you contextualize everything in that framework, you can not only determine if you do in fact have a solution for them...but you will approach it from a more objective, thoughtful, and effective perspective.
