“Who says the album’s irrelevant in 2024? Besides breaking several streaming records, Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department approached two million “traditional album sales” during its first week of availability, according to new data. That sales milestone, reflecting albums moved across permanent downloads, cassette, CD, and vinyl alike between April 19th and 25th, entered the media spotlight in a breakdown from Billboard. Citing Luminate data, the outlet specifically identified 1.914 million Tortured Poets Department units sold directly throughout the stretch. Notably, vinyl accounted for 859,000 units within that sales sum – leaving north of one million units for digital, CDs, and cassettes. As calculated in album-equivalent units, the overall figure came in at 2.61 million for the lengthy project during the same period, per the breakdown. We've united an incredible group of more than 50 industry leaders -- music executives incl. Warner Music Group CEO Robert Kyncl and Live Nation Entertainment CEO Michael Rapino, artists incl. #elliegoulding, touring teams for #coldplay, #billieeilish, #harrystyles, and #jackjohnson, event organizers, venue managers, production experts, sustainability leaders, and NGOs. Did you know that TV viewers were 6% more likely to engage with ads during #SNL’s just-wrapped season 49 as compared to the broadcast primetime TV average? That's a big deal for a late night show on Saturday nights. To boot, ads aired during SNL were over 2x more effective than other late-night broadcast programming since season 49 made its mid-season, post-strikes debut. Now, NBCUniversal has announced advertisers including Allstate, L'Oréal, T-Mobile, and Volkswagen of America, Inc as season-long sponsors for the program’s golden 50th. SNL fans can expect a significant advertising push from the quartet this fall, culminating in a live, three-hour primetime special in February. SNL is a clear testament to the impact of live, tentpole programming in captivating consumer engagement and delivering business outcomes for advertisers. As a recording and touring artist for nearly 3 decades, the topic and content of this webinar is very important to me. In a nutshell: Who should own your relationship with your audience? Elon Musk? Mark Zuckerberg? Or you?  Socials are a powerful forum to reach your fans but if you rely solely on them, you’re at the whim of algorithms, anonymity, being hacked/shut down, and possible mass defection. And should that audience-owning overview be duct-taped together manually across mutliple platforms/vendors/spreadsheets, or is there a more efficient way, akin to a mixing console through which all the instruments flow?
