When analyzing the study outcomes, the following points were identified: 1. The exposure of AI to the public is still in its early stages, and the feedback gathered is limited due to the public's restricted understanding of AI. 2. This study primarily focuses on the use of AI in the classroom. However, it's important to note that the field of learning theories is currently undergoing a significant revolution that has yet to reach its conclusion. 3. While many universities view AI as an innovative or advanced technology, it's crucial to recognize that AI encompasses more than this narrow definition. AI is just a tiny part of a larger initiative known as the "Bioformatic human cloning" (Almheiri, 2024) project, which aims to transition the human mind to a zero-learning stage. In essence, AI is a tool that contributes to the broader mission of "creative replacement" (Almheiri, 2024). This shift will decrease emphasis on traditional learning, replaced by a focus on probing. As AI, AGI, ASI, and other technologies take over the role of education, human efforts will be redirected toward exploration in both terrestrial and extraterrestrial domains. It's worth noting that ongoing conflicts and wars may distract these probing endeavors. I want to thank Dr. Louna AL Hallak for her inspiring insights that have motivated me to share these findings with our esteemed readers.

AI Study by Educause The 2024 EDUCAUSE AI Landscape Study summarizes the higher education community's sentiments and experiences related to AI's impact on strategic planning, policies, workforce, and the future. Institutions are exploring AI's opportunities for teaching, learning, and work while being cautious of the risks. AI-related strategic planning is motivated by the rapid uptake of AI tools, with goals focused on supporting students' experiences and workforce readiness. Training for faculty, staff, and students is a key element of AI strategy. Institutional leaders are cautiously optimistic about AI, and everyone has a role to play in AI-related strategic planning. AI is making the biggest impact on policies for teaching and learning, technology, cybersecurity, and data privacy.

I consider myself part of the open education community, going back all the way to the launch of OpenCourseWare. What “open” means in the context of AI is not clear. The fundamental rights of open source software don’t translate easily, at least not to the most powerful foundation models, because the cost of running them makes it infeasible for most. And inspecting what goes on “inside the black box” is much harder than reading software code. However, for me “open” has always been most interesting as a means to an end: increasing opportunity for meaningful participation. And I am curious how that spirit could translate to AI. I very much look forward to the collection of articles that this project will generate. And if you have a perspective or a recommendation you want to share, please submit a proposal!

Should AI be a part of the education system? Artificial intelligence has become a focal point of discussion within the education sector, sparking diverse opinions from stakeholders. While some enthusiastically endorse its incorporation, others remain cautious. Nevertheless, a pressing question persists: should AI find its place in the K-12 curriculum? As highlighted by Hadi Partovi and reported in EdTech Magazine, many executives advocate for its inclusion, reasoning that traditional educational approaches must evolve to meet the demands of the contemporary world. Partovi stated, "Why are we still teaching students the same thing we taught them 100 years ago?" underscored the urgency of embracing technological advancements. Embracing AI early in diverse educational settings not only equips students with essential skills for engaging with AI-driven technologies but also enhances their proficiency in foundational subjects like math and reading. Consequently, initiating the integration of AI tools into education is imperative to ensure that students are adequately prepared for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. #AI #Edtech #Tech

Publication alert. Our new learning analytics paper is out! We've explored peer interaction dynamics of business students when using an asynchronous gamified platform ClassCred. Using learning analytics to explore peer learning patterns in asynchronous gamified environments. International Journal of Educational Technology in Higher Education https://lnkd.in/epJfETre This study explored the dynamics of students' knowledge co-construction in an asynchronous gamified environment in higher education, focusing on peer discussions in college business courses. Utilizing epistemic network analysis, sequence pattern mining, and automated coding, we analyzed the interactions of 1,319 business students. Our findings revealed that externalization and epistemic activity were prevalent, demonstrating a strong link between problem-solving and conceptual understanding. Three primary discussion types were observed: argumentative, epistemic, and social, each with unique patterns of engagement and idea integration. Effective knowledge co-construction patterns included open-ended questions with an epistemic focus, debates serving as intense knowledge co-construction arenas, and social interactions fostering a supportive and collaborative learning environment. The introduction of gamification elements led to increased student engagement and participation. Our findings emphasize the significance of structured analysis, collaboration, and argumentation in promoting effective knowledge co-construction in peer learning settings. This study offers insights into the temporal interplay of discourse dimensions and their potential for collaborative learning, enhancing our understanding of how learning analytics can be employed to discover ways in which students co-construct knowledge in asynchronous gamified environments. Ray Schroeder is right on the mark here... "A less-positive impact on colleges and universities from the advances in GenAI in the coming year is the potential for businesses to expand their own e-learning platforms to provide training to their employees rather than outsourcing that learning to the higher education institutions. Cypher Learning earlier this month predicted: 'Personalized workplace development will become the new standard, displacing old-school, one-size-fits-all training. With hang-onto-your-hat speed, personalized training is accelerating rapidly, becoming more feasible both economically and logistically for large enterprises with thousands of employees. Modern learning platforms, powered by conscientiously deployed AI, drive this shift, allowing companies to provide dynamic, on-demand upskilling tailored to individual needs. By 2025, we’ll see bite-sized lessons seamlessly fitting into unique workflows, empowering companies to reduce worker-error rates, boost competitiveness, and turn workplace development from a cost center into a value-generating engine.'" We're already starting to see this with advancements in corporate-oriented products. We are not yet at the stage of full automation, but it's easy to see where a company could in-source training and development in the very near future - with relatively low entrance barriers.
