BATTERED UMBRELLA: Consumers who have long recognized the many benefits of umbrella coverage are now seeing the impact of social inflation, as more losses reach umbrella layers and in turn drive up premiums. As the story below describes, increased premiums are also coming with heightened carrier reluctance to offer higher limits. Verisk reports that umbrella premiums rose by 7% from between 2019 and 2012. While still comparatively inexpensive, rising umbrella premiums come at a time when home and auto rates continue to trend upward. #emergingissues #inuranceindustry #socialinflation
