In Ethiopia, where 3.9 million people in Tigray do not have enough to eat, CRS is implementing the Joint Emergency Operation (JEOP), funded by USAID - Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance and USAID Ethiopia. Today, we’re going to tell you more about the JEOP. ⬇️ The goal of JEOP is to provide food, cash and nutrition assistance to food insecure households. This support is being provided across 5 regions and one city administration in Ethiopia, where people are facing severe food shortages, due to conflict, drought, internal displacement, and climate change. The JEOP’s main job is to make sure that families can get enough food when they need it, acting as safety net for those who are struggling the most—especially pregnant and breastfeeding women, and children under 5 suffering from malnutrition. In the last six months, over 1.7 million men and women have been supported with 178,000 metric tons of wheat, pulse and vegetable oil.

🖐 Playful learning: Meaningful training in one that brings content to life in a practical and fun manner to participants. 🖐 EnCompass’ Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (hashtag #MEL) Activity (https://lnkd.in/eaAmEaiW) team, under the regional MEL platform based in hashtag #ElSalvador and serving eight countries in the hashtag #CentralAmerica region, again brought training to the next level. This time round the team utilized ludic pedagogy (https://lnkd.in/gEUAnbrh) and gamification (https://lnkd.in/egJuwgE) against Alice in Wonderland backdrop to make sense of an otherwise quite arid topic: hashtag #samplingstrategies for hashtag #datacollection. Ludic training methods have long succeeded in translating difficult concepts into long-lasting learning experiences for children, youth and adults alike. Linked to hashtag #ludic methods is hashtag #gamification, which uses games and similar techniques to make learning fun and enjoyable, enriching the learning experience and contributing to achieving the training objectives The result was a loud success! Over 36 participants in the sampling training that took place on May 24 in San Salvador were actively engaged during this dynamic, three-hour, in-person learning experience that required people to physically move across the room to demonstrate different hashtag #sampling strategies. Bingo! 🎯 It all made more sense to them. USAID supports the expansion of the Central America Service Corps with a new project that unites Salvadoran youth in service. On October 25, in El Salvador, USAID and Glasswing International launched a new project under the Central American Service Corps (#CASC) initiative called Jóvenes Unidos. With a $20.2 million investment ($10 million from USAID and $10.2 million from the private sector), Jóvenes Unidos will help generate leadership potential, an optimistic outlook, and a sense of belonging among youth. Over five years, the project will work directly with thousands of youth, including those with disabilities, in the Santa Ana, San Salvador, and San Miguel areas to develop the skills to make meaningful contributions to their communities and address their personal and professional challenges. Jóvenes Unidos continues the expansion of Glasswing's unique youth service program started more than three years ago in Honduras and Guatemala with support from the Buffet Foundation, and since 2024 with USAID support in Guatemala and now in El Salvador. The model includes a carefully crafted and adaptable three-part service program consisting of technical and soft skills training, a six-month paid community service internship, and support to connect with education, employment, and civic engagement opportunities beyond the life of the project. Glasswing International is very grateful to The Howard G. Buffett Foundation, USAID Missions in the Northern Triangle, and our dozens of stakeholders, partners, and collaborators in the region without whom we would not have achieved this reach and ongoing impact.

Excited with the recognition of Indonesia digital health work. The Digital Maturity Index (DMI) guides Indonesia’s digital transformation, with a focus on the processes, people, and systems that are essential for stronger health systems. Indonesia MOH, with the support of USAID CHISU, decided to adapt the HIS Stages of Continuous Improvement (SOCI) tool to the Indonesian context to create the DMI. The HIS SOCI-informed DMI allows for concrete monitoring of Indonesia’s HIS progression, allowing a wide range of stakeholders to take evidence-based action to achieve measurable progress toward a common HIS vision. So What? Due to these efforts, there was a marked increase in all HIS domains between 2022 and 2023—clearly demonstrating a positive progression toward health system digital transformation. There was a 51 percent reduction in tuberculosis data entry, from nine minutes to four for each patient encounter. Indonesia’s MOH believes this increased time with patients will translate into more data-informed decisions, which will in turn lead to improved patient care and health outcomes.

USAID MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience works to improve access to and availability of quality, respectful, and person-centered MNCH/FP/RH care in fragile and conflict-affected settings. As such, the project occupies a special place in development programming and is designed to demonstrate how a development project can operate effectively in settings of chronic or frequent crises. With all the hoopla regarding Project 2025, I found this link is to my post from several months ago regarding the USAID section. Overall, I thought the paper offered some good but implausible recommendations such as breaking the stranglehold of the beltway consulting firms on program implementation, streamlining procurement regulations, and restoring USAID independence of the State Department. Of course, the major themes were there as well — avoidance of DEI (diversity, equity and inclusion) for staff recruitment and promotion, elimination of gay pride events, greater promotion of faith-based programming, and greater use of local entities for program implementation. https://lnkd.in/dYFh-tUY
