There are broadband service providers that are not afraid of competition, though they may not seek it out. And there are broadband service providers that run from competition at the first whiff. Often because the legacy playbook of "low price, fast speeds" is a race to the bottom and they know this. The ones not afraid to compete are: A. Willing to do things price-wise that others are not. Even when they're "winning" they really aren't. OR B. Have true value built into their offerings beyond speed and price (great WiFi, network security, parental controls, community WiFI, etc.) and are confident in their offering. First of all, don't be the BSP that is afraid of competition. Second of all, don't be the BSP unafraid because of a willingness to slash margins and win on price. You win today but lose tomorrow. In the coming years as we see most markets (yes even rural ones) have multiple high speed options, this becomes even more important. #broadband #fiber #sethtalks

This is an old problem, from 2012, here's a 'Telco Big Data' conference discussing the opportunities, risks, and the simple fact anonymization of aggregate telco customer data is hard (impossible). Consider all the data we share with the likes of Google, Meta, via our mobile phones, for 'free' stuff. However, on average the US family pays their carrier $200 per month, and the expectation is to protect their family's privacy.
