Google Cloud accidentally nukes customer account and causes two weeks of downtime. This is a valuable lesson in operational controls and risk mitigation. Remember three copies is required for a true backup because two is one and one is none. That philosophy saved UniSuper from the potentially business-ending event. Hat tip to Ryan Brown MCIS, CISSP, CISM for bringing this to my attention - check the Comments to find the article link. Oracle decided it was missing out on the #adtech world. They're not wrong; there's a tremendous amount of money circulating around that industry in spite of the will of the #consumers. It used to be said that if you're not the consumer, beeteedubs, you are the product. Guess what, folks? Maybe you're the consumer, maybe you're not - but for hundreds of businesses, you are the product whether you want to be or don't. Anyway, in the face of intense competition, growing regulatory pressures and souring public sentiment, Oracle has made the choice to quietly shutter their #advertising #business. The takeaway for #privacy advocates? Regulation is working. Taking a stand as an individual is working. 👍 (I genuinely hope those folks who are being displaced by this implosion find good, fulfilling employment elsewhere.)
