To my Chartered Engineer and IntPE colleagues in North America, or those considering a move here in future, this seems like an important shift in the licensing process: https://lnkd.in/gGxY57Kw Most importantly "As engineers are licensed at the state level in the US, participation in this agreement is determined by individual state licensing boards. Today, 26 US states have already confirmed their intent to participate in the agreement, marking a significant step forward towards wider adoption". Apparently this includes states such as California, which has very specific licensing requirements, which has already signed a letter of intent. Might we see this move in Canadian licensing bodies eventually too? #CEng #IntPE

So proud of this whole team and the incredible work they do. I’m just fit to burst. The FRC is so important because it helps us understand site specific flood risk at any scale - we can tweak what we know at any level and still look at the big picture without sacrificing the quality or integrity of the assessment. This scalable framework is critical for confident decision making and that’s why we developed it. We didn’t like having black boxes we couldn’t “break” and fully understand. But here we have something so powerful, that we can use it to compare different alternatives over time, and also understand key thresholds and timing for when we want to be taking action on risk. This phasing of action can be extremely supportive in implementation planning, where we understand what we should be doing when, calibrating with real data and based on how projections may change over time, and help people not feel so overwhelmed by the magnitude of challenges they’re facing.

ENR's California Top Rated Design Firms 2024: The results are in and AECOM retain their top spot as the number one design firm in California, based on 'design-specific revenue'. Transportation, hazardous waste and water supply projects make up the majority of AECOM's revenue, coming in at 27%, 26% and 21% respectively. Household names including Stantec, WSP and Arcadis make the top 10, as expected. Great to see a mixture of industry giants, medium-sized firms and local consultancies on the list. While crisis preparedness is now recognized as a cornerstone of organizational resilience, this Economist Impact and FTI Consulting survey report reveals major gaps in corporations’ ability to anticipate, plan for and respond to crisis events.

The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) recently released a report detailing that if federal infrastructure spending stays at its current level, which has been increased by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), the U.S. economy would see a positive impact, while reducing spending back to pre-IIJA levels would have the opposite effect. More specifically, the report predicts that maintaining current funding levels over the next 10 years would shield U.S. industries from losing more than $1 trillion in their output and help to avoid the loss of more than $600 billion in GDP.   At Michael Baker International, we believe that maintaining and upgrading our nation’s infrastructure is critical for our communities and country to prosper.
