How do you edit your own work? This is a great episode of one of my favorite podcasts, Making Sense. Sam Harris interviews award-winning writer George Saunders. During the episode, Saunders discusses how he revises his own work. He tries to detach himself and read the piece as if it were for the first time. This is EXCELLENT advice. And it works great if you leave the work alone for a bit, even if it is just overnight. Revising and rewriting are critical to the writing process. They ARE the writing process. Literal logos? Sometimes they’re just right. Sure, literal logos make some designers cringe—but there are definitely times they’re the perfect fit. For example, this outreach ministry originally had a logo with a generic set of hands holding the name. They wanted a fresh, bold look that felt more connected and eye-catching and was also responsive and vectorized. (By the way, a responsive logo adapts to different sizes and forms—like a full logo, a submark, or an alternate logo. A vectorized logo just means it stays sharp no matter the size, unlike raster logos, which can get fuzzy.) For the new Extended Arms Outreach Ministries logo, I designed a person with outstretched arms, adding flow and movement. The arms even form part of the letters! Since they like circular designs, I placed this figure in an ellipse with the ministry name wrapping around it. The final look? A bold, clean, and friendly logo ready to shine on shirts, bags, and more at their next events! #logodesign #logolove #ministrylogo

Robert Bridges' poem 'Nightingales' stands as a remarkable example of poetic license, showcasing his audacious attempt to create a unique piece that can rival even the works of John Keats. In my view, 'Nightingales' is one of Bridges' finest works. The poem's emotional depth, particularly the birds' yearning in the second and third stanzas, echoes Arnold's 'Philomela,' thereby presenting a contrasting longing to that of Keats. However, the style of the poem is undeniably influenced by Keats' ode. The echoes range from direct references like 'Where are those starry woods?' ('Where are the songs of spring?') to shared emotional resonance ('Whose pining visions dim, forbidden hopes profound') and even to similar diction. From these sweet-springing meads and bursting boughs of May. Bridge's unreflective nature poems are like those of Keats in many ways. The first lines of "The Garden in September" announce their parentage in the "Ode to Autumn": Now thin mists temper the slow-ripening beams Of the September sun. The same heavy richness, the same ripeness which is almost over-ripeness, "swells and plumps" the rhythms of the two poems, a richness obtained by a skilful fusion of sense and sound. https://lnkd.in/epK5svrq
