I still see a lot of greenfield space for e-com brands on TikTok. Not everyone is there and most are still small - it's a great time to march in and make it your competitive advantage. In fact, TikTok just launch a functionality enabling keyword targeting in their search ad campaigns. Did you know that 57% of TikTok users utilize search? I find the timing of this article interesting after #Meta's leaked email from Zuck about trying to break into the world of Snap and TikTok for their data. Having said that I also feel like we are starting to head down a dangerous game/path when things like "TikTok's data helps ensure the accuracy of influencer marketing campaigns and builds confidence for brands to work with creators again. They hold regular meetings with their TikTok representative to share tactics and discuss updates." How is my data being used as a person who follows a channel. I haven't opted into anything technically. I sure in most instances haven't purchased anything. Overall, based on this article anyways which stays vague how this is all going to be used long term is a concern. I forsee things like COPA starting to come into the picture quickly. At least with retail data that we are currently leveraging we all know that by signing up for the perks card were now in the system, we knowingly engaged. My quick take on Amazon's TikTok buyout plans: With Amazon's increasing reliance on TikTok for social commerce, there will now be stronger opposition from major businesses (and consumers) against any potential shutdown, highlighting the app's integration into the U.S. economy. Scale to stay. Not only that, but it will redefine the Creator-to-Marketplace commerce model starting with Gen Z, which will be the reinvention of retail at large. We had an article that's been performing really well after the recent legislation changes in Texas banning certain types of content, and wanted to capitalize on that. Some good points are made by PubMatic’s Andrew Baron in AdExchanger’s latest Data-Driven Thinking column. Ironically, cookies were never that big of a problem in the first place—your humble, anonymous cookie is far less personal than a hashed email (which, as the FTC recently reminded us, is in fact still PII). But to the writer’s point, years of worrying about their impending deprecation have led to some very positive changes. First- and carefully curated and enhanced second- and third-party data will always yield better results, assuming you can protect the privacy of the consumers who produced it. Based on the #Amazon and #TikTok partnership news yesterday, this EMARKETER chart from May is especially relevant - 97% overlap between their US user bases. Amazon's Prime membership and ad revenues are larger, but TikTok is growing faster. With this partnership, Amazon now has social shopping partnerships with Meta, Pinterest and Snap capturing more demand in a frictionless way and no doubt bolstering their RMN position for advertisers. You can’t market your way out of a bad product. This past week, I watched an influencer-built DTC brand launch its first products—and within days, the whole thing imploded as customers took to social media to voice their frustrations. The hype? Massive. The customer reactions? Brutal. Social media turned into a full-blown roast session, and honestly, it's been painful to watch. (My fellow TikTok ladies know who I'm talking about 🫠) And let’s be real—it’s so easy to start a business these days, especially when you’ve got a massive following. But that’s exactly the problem. Too many people treat it like a shortcut, skipping the hard work of making a product that actually delivers. Honestly? It’s a slap in the face to the companies who pour their blood, sweat, and tears into their products. The ones who live for the details, test until it’s flawless, and grind to make sure their product delivers every single time. They set the standard. No level of fame, no influencer, no campaign, no amount of reach will save you if you can’t deliver on your promise.

Hot Take: If you sell a hardlines product and do not invest in branding. You are leaving yourself open to knock offs from the same factories that produce said products. It is imperative to create community around your brand (along with quality standards) or customers will just look for the cheapest alternative. The easiest way to do this is via creative and product imagery. Taking a little initiative and not just going with stock imagery provided by manufacturers goes further than you think.
