Its troubling to see how America is becoming separated by those who take extreme positions. For anyone to see the documentary on the insurrection on the capital building , the deaths and injuries this caused , then hear the tapes on “find me 12,000 votes “ , then hear and see the cases on sexual harassment , followed by the evidence on the falsifying of corporate documents which led to fines of over £350m. For those same people to see the hundreds of millions being spent in defence cases . Then see sensitive government documents being stored by an ex president. One would have thought that there would have been enough evidence to question this former presidents integrity. That “stop the steal” was a lie. Then one sees a jury of 12 honest people ( selected from around 140 ) consider evidence and return a guilty verdict on 34 counts. Surely that would convince any reasonable person that this person is unfit to run a country. But no . More stories of . It’s rigged , it’s a conspiracy , the evidence is a pack of lies. And, all along there are people who, although tainted by working with him, call him out on many acts of dishonesty , he still has people who believe him . People in America continue to reach into their pockets to support him. They don’t see him as a character from The Omen. They see him as a saviour. Is this the power of celebrity ? The influence of social media giving extremists not only a right to be heard but the ability to spread versions of truth that stretch the imagination. At what point will he lose support ? One of the remaining 3 legal cases yet to be heard? All of this reflects the Land of the free as a super power in turmoil. I can’t help but feel that the world is splintering into ordinary people feeling that the only way they can be heard , the only way they can get their fair share is to support those who have a loud enough voice and can point a finger of blame, whilst feeling that the political classes have abandoned them. America , Israel . Russia , an uprising of facism in Italy , Syria , all point to a breakdown in what holds global peace together. Trust in the elected leaders. And a switch to extreme nationalism. When a jury of 12 convict you in your home town , where people know you best. It should be very difficult to avoid the consequences. When those consequences could be the fall of law and order in the worlds biggest democracy . Where ideology and vested interest become more important than compromise , democracy , decency , and acting in the public and countries interest. It’s concerning. When the population follow the madness? Then I’m afraid the world just got to be a much more dangerous place.
