I'm in this photo somewhere, but so are dozens of i.c.stars |* Chicago's current and past program participants who are doing some amazing work as they step into tech careers and become leaders in their companies and join civic projects to give back to their neighborhoods. Next week, I'll be celebrating 2 years of working here and I can't believe how the time has flown and how the need for workplace development is needed now more than ever. Each 4-month training cycle has spots for 20 participants, but we receive over 300 applications from individuals looking for the opportunity to change their careers, build new skills, and invest in their future. Our participants are parents, siblings, children, gig workers, visionaries, and task masters. They may have a different backstory than me (and/or you), but as I learned 20 years ago when I started my professional journey as a social worker, we have much more in common with people than we do different and our backgrounds may inform our futures, but they definitely don't predict them. #TechTalent #FutureOfTech #IOpener #ICStars

Good morning, Check out these facts about Illinois as reported by the US SBA's Office of Advocacy 2023 Small Business Profile of Illinois. I am proud to be an Illinois small business as well as grateful to be able to work alongside all the agencies in Illinois to support small business growth and sustainability. Let's keep going Illinois!!! Here in Illinois, about 42% of the small businesses are owned by women, with close to 458,000 businesses being women-owned. When you include firms that are co-owned by both women and men, in addition to the women-owned firms in Illinois, the total is over 506,000 businesses owned by women as reported in the U.S. SBA’s Office of Advocacy’s 2023 Small Business Profile of Illinois. • 406,000 are women sole-proprietors/solopreneurs/non-employer firms • 51,773 are women employer firms, with employees • 28,776 are employer firms in the state with employees, which are co-owned by both women and men. • 20,000 are non-employer firms, which are co-owned by both women and men

Doing healthcare staffing in Illinois? You'll need a license for that....or you'll need to work with a licensed EOR. Jamie Henry, MPH, BSN, RN, CHP (a nurse herself) explains the design of the license and how healthcare staffing agencies in Illinois can comply. Interestingly many EORs and staffing firms in Illinois are still operating unlicensed, exposing them and their clients to risk. As the licensing board matures, this will become less and less common as enforcement ramps up. However, compliance with the license is difficult which is why many firms and EORs are avoiding it at this point. Illinois isn't the only state either.
