Are you giving your team feedback or criticism? At a recent Endurance group with Studio/E, Nicole Sullivan shared some wisdom about feedback versus criticism. Feedback focuses more on future improvements, while criticism dwells on the past. In addition, feedback addresses specific actions, behaviors, and outcomes, while criticism is more generalized and personal. Feeling overwhelmed by the endless sea of fundraising metrics? If so, you're not alone. With so many numbers and metrics to track, it's easy to lose focus on what truly matters. Here's what you should remember... At the end of the day, there are really only 3 metrics that directly influence revenue: 1. Traffic 🚗 (how many people show up?) 2. Conversion Rate ％ (what percentage of them give?) 3. Average Gift 🎁 (how much do they give?) These three metrics form what we like to call the Flux Capacitor of Online Revenue Maximization or FCORM. Talk about an acronym 😂 When one of these metrics increases, it directly affects how much revenue your organization brings in. Thinking about our metrics this way gives us a baseline for growth. It shifts our 𝐝𝐚𝐢𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 to a single question: "Which metric should I be optimizing for today?" 🤔 Answer that question and watch your revenue grow! When people say “50% of startups fail within 5 years”, what does “failure” really mean? The implication is that the entrepreneur wasn't capable of improving the outlook for their business: a runaway train (possibly on fire) racing down a hill with no brakes. Maybe they simply thought something else would be more profitable, practical, or personally interesting. Maybe the business was doing well, but they felt their efforts would be better spent elsewhere. Does closing down the business within five years mean they failed? Research around startup failure typically bases stats on issues like cash flow or being unable to provide a return to equity holders if the company goes public. Startup failure refers to underperformance - but does it also take into account business owners who shut down operations for other reasons? In an economic climate where job security is anything but secure, are stats like these poised to demotivate people from starting new ventures, or do they create a drive to prove everyone wrong?

Podcasting is the greatest canvas in media for the free and open exchange of ideas. Adjacent channels like radio, streaming audio, and creator-driven video share this same DNA. All are built on a foundation of trust between creators and their audiences. When that trust extends to brands through authentic personal recommendations, it becomes the most powerful form of advertising. Right now, these channels are undervalued, and brands are underserved. There are too many systemic challenges—particularly around measurement—that prevent many brands from entering these spaces or achieving maximum scale. To unlock the full power of spoken word media, specialized resources are required to turn these platforms into a marketer’s secret weapon. To achieve this, leading contributors who believe in this channel need to unite. I began my career in audio in 2003, and I’ve always believed this is, at its core, a relationship business. Success comes from maximizing trust across the entire supply chain—from audiences to creators, publishers, agencies, brands, and ultimately, customers. Over the past 21 years, I’ve had the privilege to build relationships with, work alongside, and sometimes compete against people whose values I deeply respect.
