I used to produce endless podcast episodes, hoping to get tons of (unqualified) leads. It reminds me of a quote I heard from Steven Chandler: "Busyness is a form of laziness." This is true. Especially if you're producing the wrong content. If you constantly record episodes to "get the content out" but aren't focused on generating meaningful leads... Then, you'll feel like you're spinning your wheels. You don't need endless listeners. You need great conversations with "a few key listeners." The next time you engage with a listener, stay there longer. Engage them. Help them solve. Expand their perspective. Then, ask if they'd like to explore further collaboration (or if they know someone who would).

One proven strategy to make your agency’s offer a no-brainer The Problem: Leads ⍯ $$$ ​ Many agencies only deliver leads to their clients. But most clients have more problems than just leads. ​ Even if your agency delivers leads to your clients (like a phone call or appointment booked), many can’t close them well. ​ If the client doesn’t close sales from the leads, the leads are not as valuable (thus not worth paying premium money for). ​ The Strategy: Combined Value ​ With Combined Value, you offer your clients a complete all-in-one solution to get the desired result (sales) instead of providing just a few pieces of the solutions (and relying on the client to figure out the rest). ​ Example: Facebook Ads for Plumbers Package Instead of just offering Facebook Lead Generation Ads & Retargeting Think outside of the box and include other things that will get the client the result they want: Phone Sales Training for their team (audio or video course, best practices, or examples of successful plumbing closers). Referral-generating Business Cards: The backs of the cards are gift cards you can give friends and family to generate referrals. Past Customer List Email Reactivation: a simple reactivation email flows to past customers to increase repeat business. A thoughtful, custom gift for the decision maker (just because) ​ You want to stand out from the crowd by thinking outside the box, even in small ways (and be the only source for what you do). ​ ProTip: don’t feel pressured to provide everything in your offer in-house (aka doing the sales training, designing and printing the business cards, etc.). ​ Look for other vendors to purchase from or partner with (so it’s not too much extra work). ​ See how this package is much more valuable than some Facebook cheap leads! ​ Who will you hire and keep around if you own a plumbing company? A) The gal who can get you cheap Facebook leads. B) The gal who can get leads, train your phone staff to convert, turn your new customers into referrals, bring past customers back, and send you a custom beer brewing kit. ​ And there’s added value in having one agency they trust who manages the whole thing (vs. a bunch of agencies, vendors, contractors, and in-house employees). ​ Leveraging Combined Value allows you to get 5-20K/mo retainers. ​ Do this, and you’ll have more clients who stay with you for 5+ years and fewer clients who leave after 6 months. ​ Question: Thinking of the ideal clients you’d like to have, what Combined Value, all-in-one solution could you offer? ​ Be sure to share a few of your ideas below and provide some inspo for all of us!

In 2018 I started freelancing, getting clients through my network and referrals (but that didn't last long) The first client I got right out the gate was a guy I worked with prior He then brought me on for my second project on a marketing campaign (referral) We made a verbal agreement that we would work together and he would get me referrals What happened next? I got ghosted No response to calls, text or email That's not even the worst part Worst part was because I was relying on him to get business my income went from good to $0 instantly! I was faced with the situation of not knowing what to do to get clients So I took the one skill I was good at (content) and started doing that online Specifically LinkedIn Was a bit slow at first but I learned some things those first few months Then I landed my third client...strictly cold market Honestly, it was an act of God how that worked out (a story for another day) Because of my content he saw the value I could deliver for his business So he hired me as a vendor to help with his Startup When he got his first client, he brought me on to help them with their marketing (referral) By this time I had registered ICAD Marketing as a business to make it official Then guess what happened? Made the same mistake again 🤦🏽‍♂️ Relying on network and referrals to get new business (You would think I learned my lesson the first time) Again revenues fell to $0 But this time wasn't so bad Because I knew exactly what to do to turn things around 𝗗𝗼𝘂𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗺𝘆𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗳 𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗴𝗼-𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝘁 ✅ And it worked! But even better this time! Call to action = Boring Call to benefit = Better CTA: "Subscribe" CTB: "Get your free kunafa" CTA: "Join" CTB: "Unlock 90-day content library" СТА: "Buy now" CTB: "Get leads - fast" Typical short-tail CTA’s works best in the navigation menus. “Call us”, “Register”, “Book Now”, you name it. For website or landing page copy, get creative with long-tail CTAs, aka CTB. Minimum 3 words. Go ahead, make some changes. It does make a difference. Hope this helps.

Fixing your client retention will 3X your profit: (explained in 60 seconds): I’m a huge proponent of fixing client retention before anything else within an agency. Why? Because when you can 2x your retention, you 2x your revenue. And also when you 2x your retention, you 3x your profit. That’s because acquiring new customers is expensive. (1) Running ads (2) More cold outbound (3) Paying a lead gen agency And if it’s not a money expensive, it’s a time expensive. For example:  - Sales calls  - Onboarding  - Failed proposals  - Learning tendencies These are all things that don’t cost money, but they cost valuable time. And the more your clients churn, the more time/money you’ll have to waste getting things back to baseline. Takeaway here? Retention > Sales. Always.

Retention is YouTube's #1 currency And the right hook can make the biggest difference. You don't profit from the wrong questions. You profit from the right ones ... Most entrepreneurs are focused on minutiae that don't matter. They tend to ask the wrong questions: - What's the best time to post on LinkedIn? - What's the best website platform? - How often should I email my list? - How long should my videos be? - What do you think of this logo? 👉🏽 Here's a list of better questions that'll move the needle: - How do I create great quality content for LinkedIn? - Does my website offer a great user experience? - How send hyper relevant content to my list? - How do I create videos that serve clients? - How can I improve my brand authority? 🔥 Going back to first principles matters more than most people realize. I networked with 9-figure SEOs at the CMSEO conference Here are my 3 biggest takeaways 👇 1. Talk about normal-people things, not $$ Found myself chatting with Henry Purchase and a 9-figure SEO. What’d we talk about? Motorcycles, travel, and the opium trade in Southeast Asia. Imagine how many people speak to the top .001% about $$. Don’t just talk about business with these people, it's likely all they hear. Even though you are dying to ask them 100 business questions, talk about non-business things. They just want to feel normal. 2. SEO isn’t just a service agencies offer Many SEOs actually have their own projects and assets. Most SEOs I spoke to at the Chiang Mai SEO conference have: - Ecom brands - Rank and rent empires - Affiliate/content sites In the near future I plan to invest in my own SEO assets. 3. Most people at CMSEO have been in SEO for 10+ years Not only was I one of the youngest guys there, but also one of the newest to the industry. I take this to mean the following: Becoming successful in SEO requires extreme patience. Investing in SEO (as marketing) is a long term play. Practicing SEO is the exact same. Many SEOs leave the industry after a few years due to: - Difficult to understand Google algorithm updates - High skill cap industry - Hard to rank in many niches How do you survive? There are a thousand ways to find hand-raisers✋. Here’s one you can use with email marketing. 1. When you have a link related to one of your offer categories in your email, set up a “link action.” 2. That link action should segment that clicker to an interest list for that offer. 3. That segment should be the audience for a long-form sales-nurture sequence for that offer. People overcomplicate creating content You only need 1 thing to fix it: Understand your audience's needs. (so they keep coming back to your post daily) - Take time to figure out their pains & needs. - Know which point they are stuck at. - Their answer? Your next post. Here are 4 best, fastest ways to get this done: 1). Ask people who follow you - Start conversations with regular engagers - Find out their interests, challenges & their goals - Ask what kind of content they find valuable It’s a 10-second job. Many people discount it out of hand, but it pays dividends 2). Engage with other people's posts - Pay attention to what other people are saying - Look for comments with high likes & replies - Pick a comment with a question or an observation - Pick a comment that resonates with your brand. Comments are a hidden content factory. They are pre-validated ideas backed with proof. 3). Analyze charts and vanity metrics High number of engagements = good post Low number of engagements = bad post Take the core idea of the high-performing post. → Double down in the next post Now use your analytics to see the real insights. Check monthly charts to see what resonates most → Pick the idea of high-performing posts 4). Look at other creators in your niche - See how they are doing things differently - Pick a post with good engagement - Take ideas that fit your content pillars Do not ever steal their post. Pick the core idea, then add your spin to it. And there ya go! Content is never about you, it’s about your audience. The more you understand them, you meet their needs Put them in focus all the time.
