I think there is a possible huge unicorn that could be built that would include a content publishing platform and a proprietary system that lets publishers efficiently sell ad spots without the involvement of ad networks. Imagine publishing content and then having advertisers purchase ads on your own “ad builder” that are customized specifically for your company. It would be like having a Meta Ads style ad building tool capability. Google’s dominance is also supported through a lack out external innovation. Engineers hate working on ad tech. https://lnkd.in/gWJfqEG4

I roped in two AI podcast presenters to dive deep into my recommendations and endorsements helping future employers figure out why they should hire me. Try it. Just head over to NotebookLM ( https://notebooklm.google/ ), add your LinkedIn recommendations and testimonials from other sources, and customise your audio overview (podcast) so it's focused on the skills helpful to future recruiters. Customer's InfoSec department to Data Vendor: is your data compliant with GDPR and CCPA and the like? Data Vendor: No, but don't worry, we give you an indemnity against 3rd party infringement so you don't need to worry. Customer's InfoSec department to Data Vendor: Great, lets do business. ........ The above scenario has literally never happened EVER! So its been eye opening in my first few months at BRIA AI to hear that many enterprise customers are using Stability AI, OpenAI, Midjourney, Google's Gemini and other tools and accepting their indemnities as a means of overcoming the vendors' inability to vouch for the legal provenance of their training data. The reality is that there is a lot of noise in the generative AI space and you just cannot take advantage of the profound transformative impact of visual generative AI unless you are working with a vendor that takes responsible AI seriously BRIA AI #responsibleAI #visualgenerativeAI Jon Oringer

I gave a talk on “Truth vs. Disinformation in the Age of Generative AI” at the SoCal Monte Jade’s AI & Me conference. Generative AI and Large-Language Models have effected many positive changes, but there are some unintended consequences - such as making it easier to generate misinformation, disinformation, and deepfakes. I laid out how we need to leverage a holistic approach that includes AI detection, authentication, digital signatures, criteria of truth, provenance, trust framework, and education, in order to uncover the truth and tackle this emerging problem.

https://lnkd.in/eA3m_Y3Q? At the Goldman Sachs Communacopia conference, Lachlan Murdoch pointed out that Amazon's introduction of an ad-supported tier was a big enough increase in supply that it put pressure on the entire market for streaming TV ads. (Though less so on the more direct response-oriented bits—if their return on ad spend goes up, they just spend more, though it can create a hiccup in growth.) This raises a question: why wouldn't Amazon roll out a video ad business more slowly, instead of automatically opting Prime users into an ad-supported experience and then suggesting that they manually upgrade if they have a problem with it? They could have taken the opposite approach, of signing up new users with a discount and offering a cheaper version to people who tried to cancel Prime, or whose engagement patterns indicated that it's the choice they'd opt for. This would have the benefit of giving them some information on what ad pricing would look like before they bet their video model on it, and would also avoid a situation where advertisers adjust by shifting budgets rather than by increasing them. There are two arguments for the big bang approach instead. First, the more price discrimination Amazon does in video ads, the less relevant the original price is. Every expensive ad platform was once the cheap ad arb that someone used to build a business on (Google's first ads were ridiculously low-priced, and the dating site PlentyOfFish spent some time as an arbitrage between cheap Facebook traffic and more-lucrative-over-time Doubleclick ad impressions). Second, Amazon already had data from running video ads for its own products on other companies' sites. So this massive increase in video supply has a reserve bidder who will pick up the slack. Amazon would probably prefer not to do that right away, so other advertisers can test campaigns and measure their economics. But once that happens, they'll be happy to fill the rest of the ad inventory with their own content.

🚀 Exciting News: Google TV Streamer is Set to Replace Chromecast with Google TV 🚀 As Google gears up to introduce the new Google TV Streamer, we're seeing the end of an era with the Chromecast with Google TV. While it's bittersweet to say goodbye to the Chromecast, it makes perfect sense given Google's focus on Matter Casting for the future. The Chromecast served its purpose well, bringing Google TV to the masses at an affordable price point. Now, devices like Walmart's Onn, powered by Google TV, will continue to democratize access. The new Google TV Streamer is not just about a shift in strategy; it's also about a significant upgrade in hardware. With enhanced specs, this device will double as a smart home hub, fully compatible with Matter—a key advantage for those invested in smart home ecosystems. Plus, there's a strong hint that we'll see the Gemini AI Nano model integrated into this device, indicated by the shift from the Assistant button to a generic Mic button. This change suggests that while Google hasn't solidified its long-term AI/Assistant strategy, they're preparing for a future where AI plays a more central role. Personally, I'm excited about the hardware update and the sleek slanted pebble design. However, I'll miss the convenience of the dongle form factor, especially for traveling. I also prefer the current remote's side volume rocker. It's a shame to lose that feature. Additionally, I would have loved to see a far-field mic and an add-on wireless camera to enable more use cases on the TV, bringing us closer to a truly remoteless assistant experience driven by AI. Looking forward to seeing how this new device shapes the future of home entertainment and smart home integration! What are your thoughts on the upcoming Google TV Streamer? #GoogleTV #SmartHome #AI #TechUpdate #Innovation

Great article on Shutterstock and our AI training data deals. Some important points: - we are clearly the leader in image/video licensing for AI training - companies are realizing they need licensed data in their models - and scraping/stealing isn't going to work long term. It isn't a choice any longer - we pay our contributors on the data we sell and essentially created this model that we have been operating for 20+ years now. - our licensing business last year 2023 produced $104mm in revenue - our latest deal with Reka AI was announced

We’re experiencing a massive platform shift to LLMs. Lightspeed's Michael Mignano and I discussed what this shift means for Grammarly, what the industry needs to do to ensure #genAI adoption and value creation, and where I predict true efficiency gains through AI will come from. Hint: it’s not about creating more content. Thanks for having me on, Michael! https://lnkd.in/gpruc99i

Anthropic's Claude just dropped a Computer use feature which feels very much like a sequel to the scrappiness of first-generation agentic AI. The incredible AI builder Mckay Wrigley has already put together a video showing how to get it up and running. The impact of AI on creative jobs is a hotly debated topic. OpenAI's CTO, Mira Murati, believes that while AI can enhance creativity, it may also eliminate certain jobs that produce low-quality content. McKinsey Global Institute predicts that generative AI could result in 12 million workers in the US needing to find new jobs by 2030. The ongoing debate raises concerns about job displacement and the need for responsible AI development and regulation. #AI #Creativity #JobDisplacement https://lnkd.in/gKaHUJrZ

Worth a read... "With past Llama models, Meta developed them for ourselves and then released them, but didn’t focus much on building a broader ecosystem. We’re taking a different approach with this release. We’re building teams internally to enable as many developers and partners as possible to use Llama, and we’re actively building partnerships so that more companies in the ecosystem can offer unique functionality to their customers as well. I believe the Llama 3.1 release will be an inflection point in the industry where most developers begin to primarily use open source, and I expect that approach to only grow from here. I hope you’ll join us on this journey to bring the benefits of AI to everyone in the world." https://lnkd.in/eRBBC9m5
