🚀Firefly Aerospace Joins U.S. Defense's Strategic Space Program with SDA HALO Contract Firefly Aerospace has been selected as a trusted vendor for the U.S. Department of Defense's Space Development Agency (SDA) HALO (Hybrid Acquisition for Proliferated LEO) program. This exciting new partnership allows Firefly to support end-to-end demonstration missions for SDA’s rapidly expanding military satellite network in low-Earth orbit, utilizing its advanced Elytra orbital vehicles. Jason Kim, CEO of Firefly Aerospace, shared the company’s readiness to meet the rising demand for advanced space capabilities: "We're seeing an increasing demand for both prototype and feasibility demonstrations that support critical joint warfighter terrestrial missions with rapid and affordable commercial services. Firefly is ready to meet that demand with our robust space vehicles that provide technical and schedule confidence for a diverse set of customers." The SDA’s HALO initiative is designed to enable rapid deployment for missions in Tranche 2 of the Demonstration and Experimentation System (T2DES) — focusing on launch, on-orbit maneuvering, and tracking services that align with the U.S. national security agenda. Each contract delivers results within 18 months, accelerating development for the U.S. defense’s proliferated satellite architecture. "SDA is proud to welcome 19 vendors into the first-ever HALO pool," SDA Director Derek Tournear commented. “This creative award solution enables SDA to quickly compete, build, and fly demonstration missions to reduce risk for the Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture and encourage a competitive vendor base for future missions.” Firefly’s Elytra vehicles, integral to HALO missions, offer versatile, in-orbit capabilities, such as last-mile satellite delivery, payload hosting, optical communications, edge computing, and de-orbiting services. With the flexibility to launch on Firefly’s Alpha rocket, upcoming Medium Launch Vehicle, or a third-party launcher, Elytra is equipped to meet diverse mission needs. Space Force begins first synchronized SPAFORGEN Commit cycle  Published July 1, 2024 Secretary of the Air Force Public Affairs U.S. Space Force is continuing implementation of its Space Force Generation (SPAFORGEN) model across the force, beginning its first synchronized Commit phase cycle July 1 after the successful completion of the Prepare and Ready phases. The start of this phase marks a major milestone in the Space Force’s efforts to reoptimize for great power competition. “As the lead Field Command for executing SPAFORGEN, we are focused on generating, presenting, sustaining and improving combat-ready space forces for Service and Combatant Command missions,” said Lt. Gen. David Miller, Jr., Space Operations Command commander. “Aligning the timing of these phases for all units across our command helps us ensure combat-credible force elements and warrior leaders across our formations are postured and ready for employment.” Read the full article in the link below.

At Valiant Shield 24, Raytheon demonstrated a simulated complex missile engagement leveraging the US Army's Lower Tier Air and Missile Defence Sensor, or LTAMDS, and Integrated Air and Missile Defence Battle Command System, IBCS, launching the US Navy's premier, long-range effector, Standard Missile-6 (SM-6). Using track data from Army LTAMDS simulators and operational SM-6 engagement control software interfaced with IBCS, the test demonstrated the successful integration of these existing, respective Army and Navy program capabilities. Collaborative Combat Aircraft, or CCAs, have been receiving a lot of attention lately. The Air Force Research Laboratory/Kratos XQ-58 is the first flying aircraft of this type, designed to be built quickly, in large numbers, and at low cost, but with relevant capabilities. Occupying a design space between an expendable munition and a high-end fighter, the reusable XQ-58 can fly at high subsonic speeds and range out to 3,000 NM. It is powered by a small turbofan engine with a dorsal inlet, has swept wings, and a V-tail. It is launched from a rail using rockets and lands using parachutes and airbags. It has a small weapons bay from which small UASs have been launched. The XQ-58 first flew in March 2019. Various versions since then are being used for autonomy/AI development and operational demonstrations; recently one with Marine markings conducted electronic attack demonstrations with F-35s. Another one was used to demonstrate conventional take-off using a wheeled trolley.
