I initiated and conducted a supply/demand analysis of District 3 middle school seats vs our district's elementary school students' academic levels (using standardized test scores as a proxy). The objective was to understand whether there was a shortfall of seats overall, as well as to determine the level of competition and the likelihood of a student getting admitted to her/his first choice, depending on her/his 4th grade test score This analysis also included demographic data, and highlighted…

Lead sustainability projects that improve quality of life and enjoyment of residents while reducing the building’s carbon footprint. Examples including establish composting, textile and electronics recycling in the building and decarbonization / electrification.

Projects

  • Building decarbonization/ electrification LL 97

Led the effort to decarbonize and fully electrify an 11-story, 77 unit coop built in 1947 (using LL 97 as the excuse / impetus). Identified vendors, consultants, relevant support ecosystem, got buy-in from rest of Board and residents, and managed every step and aspect of the project. Work is ongoing, as is my frustration level with the lack of implementation “chops” of policy makers as well as advocates trying to advance the issue.

  • Composting/Recycling: community leader

    -

Introduced composting, textile, and electronics recycling into our 70 unit coop building. as part of the Department of Sanitation's pilot program in NYC, run under then deputy commissioner Ron Gonen.

Our building was the very first in our community to participate in the pilot, and among the first in Manhattan to join the effort.

  • Sustainable agriculture: My personal commitments lead and complement my professional pursuits.

    -

By purchasing grass fed beef, wild salmon, honey, and fresh produce directly from the specialist local farmers, I'm trying to both understand the issues and advance sustainable agriculture in our local community. (Happy to provide more information on the farmers, the process, etc.)
