India pivotal in lowering 5G FWA device cost for global markets: Qualcomm executive https://lnkd.in/gb7TM4_3 Fixed Wireless Access, or wifi routers that connect to the internet via 5G modems and mobile network is popular in many Indian tier2 cities where optical cable infrastructure is lacking. I worked with something similar with 4G for years on my trips to Mysore. Now India is also a hub for manufacturing and export of such hubs. Qualcomm is benefitting as well as buyers, and of course Indian ecosystem. This chipset can be a product idea for Indian startups under MeitY Startup Hub and #DLI scheme

Connect 2024 is an annual engineering conference sponsored by Marvell CTO office, across many regions in Marvell global footprint, with a purpose of connecting Technology and People. CONNECT India 2024 was an exuberant event that kicked off the CONNECT conference season with enthusiasm and a thirst for knowledge. Held simultaneously in Bangalore and Pune, the conference featured live sessions streamed to both locations, bringing over 1,200 employees together as One Marvell. US-headquartered semiconductor design company Synopsys Inc will help Tata Electronics ramp up designing custom semiconductor products, help in factory automation, data analytics, computer-aided design & supply product design kits, & develop intellectual property for chip fabrication, chief executive Sassine Ghazi told The Economic Times in an exclusive interview. Ghazi was in Mumbai to meet Tata Electronics Pvt. Ltd. CEO Dr. Randhir Thakur & TATA SONS LIMITED Chairman N. Chandrasekaran, & in Bengaluru to meet Ola chief Bhavish Aggarwal. “They (Tatas) are bringing the technology from a partner. We’re going to be working with them to tune it, bring it to their expectation of yield, power & performance & to bring their customers in,” he said. Synopsys Inc’ collaboration with the Tatas will be like its partnerships with Rapidus, TSMC, Intel, Samsung & GlobalFoundries, he said. Synopsys will also provide IP & design tools to Ola’s artificial intelligence startup, Krutrim, to develop an AI chip & a digital twin of the Indian company’s electronics systems, Ghazi said. “We will be the on-ramp to help customers get to the fab because you can build the most beautiful, sophisticated manufacturing facility but if you don’t have enablement where you provide the IP, & how semiconductor companies design with certain rules, for the manufacturing capacity, you cannot use the manufacturing. We’re the leader in providing the IP & the enablement for the semiconductor to on-ramp to the fab,” he said. “We are an enabler & there is a technology transfer that is happening. To enable that technology to go through the manufacturing process, there are tools that are required to enable that to happen & that is exactly what we are doing,” Synopsys India head Rituparna Mandal said. “Anyone who is trying to design a chip will make the first call to us, especially for advanced chips or those required for data centres that he (Bhavish Aggarwal) is planning on building. He has already hired a leader & is expanding the team to architect & design a ‘future’ chip. We have engaged with them in a range of IP, tools, & expertise, to accelerate that effort,” Ghazi said. “We will leave it to our customer when they want to announce (a deal), but we have an active engagement with them,” Ghazi said, hinting at an upcoming announcement from Ola. Ghazi said technology, skilling & startups will be the three areas he expects opportunities for the company to participate in India. “There are several factors in the investment India is making which is very similar to other governments. One is from a technology resilience point of view, which we are in the middle of. Two, skills. But I think TSMC will be dominant while the others will compete amongst each other and may even find themselves in situation where TSMC keeps eating their lunch

Tessolve, a leading semiconductor engineering solutions provider, has announced a definitive agreement to acquire German chip design firm Dream Chip Technologies in a deal valued up to ₹400 crore. This acquisition strengthens Tessolve’s global footprint and enhances its capabilities in delivering end-to-end, turnkey design solutions for advanced chips, particularly in System on Chip (SoC) applications across the AI, automotive, data center, and industrial sectors. As part of this acquisition, Tessolve will add four new delivery centers in Germany and the Netherlands, including a specialized Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and imaging center of excellence. Srini Chinamilli, Tessolve’s CEO, highlighted that this deal positions Tessolve among the few global design firms with comprehensive capabilities to tackle complex ASIC design projects. Jens Benndorf, CEO of Dream Chip, noted that the combined strengths of Dream Chip’s design IP and Tessolve’s established services will enable fully integrated solutions, from chip architecture to post-silicon testing and supply chain management. This collaboration aims to drive innovation, especially in camera-based and AI-driven ASIC applications. In parallel, reports indicate that Hero Electronix, a key stakeholder in Tessolve, may sell a 25-30% stake in the company, though Hero remains committed as a long-term majority shareholder. Class B amplifiers are sometimes OK for RF but not audio. Why? 👇🏽 Class B amplifiers provide a highly distorted output signal, but with good amplification efficiency. For many RF applications, it is okay to distort the carrier signal as long as the modulation is not affected. The baseband information can still be retrieved. Class B won't work for audio. It is a complex time-varying signal which needs to be accurately amplified. To still get Class B efficiencies, the push-pull amplifier was invented. It is a differential version of a Class B amplifier that can produce amplification with good efficiency. BREAKING: A POTENTIAL Qualcomm-Intel MERGER COULD Reshape the Semiconductor Industry Amid Intel's Struggles. US network CNBC has confirmed that Qualcomm recently approached Intel Corporation about a possible takeover. While it remains unclear if Intel has engaged in formal discussions or what the terms might be, this potential merger—if it goes through—could rank among the most significant tech deals in history, with Intel’s market cap exceeding US $90 billion. Once the global leader in chipmaking, Intel has experienced a steady decline, a situation exacerbated in 2024. The company reported disappointing earnings earlier this year, triggering the largest single-day stock drop in over five decades. Intel shares have plummeted 53% year-to-date as investors question its costly strategy to manufacture and design its own chips. This contrasts sharply with Qualcomm’s more asset-light approach, which relies on partners like TSMC Semiconductor Manufacturing Company and Samsung Semiconductor for production. Intel’s efforts to bounce back include a bold $100 billion investment plan to expand its foundry business over the next five years, but the firm has struggled to capitalize on the booming artificial intelligence (AI) market. NVIDIA, not Intel, has claimed more than 80% of the rapidly growing AI chip market, especially for systems like ChatGPT. Qualcomm, despite generating less revenue than Intel in 2023 (US $35.8 billion vs. $54.2 billion), might see the potential for a broader market share and technical synergies from a merger, particularly in the AI space and computing.
