The Key Role of Resilience
It’s common to see posts celebrating achievements, which is both valid and inspiring. But today, I’d like to talk about challenges, which are fundamental in shaping the path toward those victories. Success tends to be an important part of our journey, but more often than not, it is resilience that sustains that trajectory.
I’d like to share a personal example where resilience played a key role in my career. Since college, I knew where I wanted to go: my goal has always been to become the CEO. Not for the title itself, but because of my passion for business and for developing people, which aligns with my purpose and what I truly love to do.
Knowing where I wanted to go, I realized that at some point in my career, I would need to work in the industry to achieve my goal. By my second year of college, I was already in a coordinator role. I started working early – at 16, I was teaching computer classes, and by 18, I was the coordinator of a computer school. Although I enjoyed what I was doing, I decided to resign and start over as an intern in logistics. It was a tough decision, but I knew it was the necessary step for my future.
At this new company, I learned a lot about logistics, which was essential for my development. I grew quickly: in six months, I was promoted to analyst, and just over a year later, I was managing the imports portfolio. I was proud of my achievements and confident I had made the right decision.
However, just as I was about to be promoted again, the company decided to shut down its operations in Brazil. It was a shock. Having progressed quickly, I knew it would be difficult to find a new position at the same level, especially since I was still in university.
It took several months to find a new job, and despite applying for many positions, I had to start over as an intern once again. Looking back now, I see that stepping out of my comfort zone was the right choice, but at the time, the confidence I had in being on the right path turned into a series of doubts. I often questioned whether I had made the right decision, wondering if I should have stayed as a coordinator at the computer school. However, it was resilience and determination to reach my goal that kept me going.
Our careers will always have ups and downs, and we should be grateful for that. As I often say, a career is not a straight line – and that’s a good thing! Challenges push us to hold on to our values and stay focused on what really matters.
I am proud of every stage of my journey so far and of the lessons I’ve learned along the way. Don’t fear difficult moments – keep your goal as your ally and move forward with your head held high. It’s these moments that shape more human, empathetic leaders who are better prepared for future challenges.
